Pandemic, motivation and me

What's the similarity or difference in the below quotes? "Some people will hate you just because they see you getting success they think they deserve from the work they haven’t done” (source Twitter). Vs “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” (source google). Yes, these are both motivational quotes. Right! But, one projects anger, irritation or hurtfulness and the latter encourage and inspires.  What leads to inspiration or discouragement ? Expectations sometimes are far from reality. When these two overlap, we are happy and joyful. But when they are afar we tend to be surprised, be angry or end up feeling hurt.  I expected something of a person which in reality wasn't delivered. I had this fantasy in my head where some person, according to me, must respond in a certain way, to a situation, but they didn't. I was hurt! Should I be hurt or angry? Even if I am, how should I react? I know we can't decide how we react, but we can sure modulate what we expec

A day well spent in Addis: wandering solo

Image
A night before I was planning to wander alone in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, our group of three was surrounded by 7-8 street children. At first, I thought they were curiously moving around and following us, but in sometime they tried to snatch our purses, in response, our presence of mind took control of the situation and we reached unhurt to our hotel. Not a very big incidence to describe but it shook my confidence to go alone the other day. I had to go! What would I have done with a complete day when I had made up my mind to go around the city? I kept telling myself, this could have happened in India as well. But sometimes situation seems bigger for a moment, which, we later realize was a small issue. So, the moment passed, and I decided to go around, but had to be sure of my safety. I followed these simple rules: Follow all safety measures as you would do in any other parts of the world (even in your own country). Keep your belongings safe Ask locals (whom you coul

Her little concern!

She was attending a meeting. The air conditioned hall was full of her colleagues both men and women. Tea was served in between the meeting, she usually liked tea, but today, she refused politely. She knew this meeting would go on for at least an hour more. Her concentration was diverted from the meeting and she checked her watch very frequently as if she wanted to finish this meeting quickly. She seemed liked she had some stress. Something was continuously running at back of her mind. ‘Her’ reason for getting distracted was very simple and natural. Her bladder was full and getting up and walking towards toilet in presence of her colleagues was awkward for her. Although her male colleagues frequented their visits towards the toilet for the well deserved bio-break after consuming tea, she resisted and kept seated. We find many such ‘HER’ who avoid using ‘HERS’ just because using toilets has been culturally associated with shame, embarrassment and indignity. Using a toilet also

I wish I had more days in Coorg!!

I wish I had more days in Coorg!! After last minute delays and confusions, as usual, we used our first Uber ride and travelled to Pune Airport for free. We arrived from Pune to Bangalore just one day before we started our journey. We stayed in a friends place in JP Nagar enjoying late night chats and delicious food. Next morning we left for Madikeri. We first thought of travelling by KSRTC bus, but later chose to hire a cab as we could enjoy the beautiful road to Coorg. Coorg is name of a district which is also known as Kodagu and Madikeri (anglicized as Mercara) is headquarters of the district. Coorg is a beautiful region in southwestern Karnataka and can be reached by road from Bengaluru via Mysurur or from Mangalore. We went by Mysuru highway although bypassed the Mysuru city. It takes nearly six hours to travel from Bengaluru to Madekeri non-stop but we decided to stop at multiple places on the way and thus we reached Madekeri after nine hours. I was surprised to know abou

Pune and its appetite!

Whenever you meet a Punekar  aka  Puneite, one of the many things this person will speak of is the places where you get awesome food.  You must visit these places if you really want to enjoy the foods in Pune. Although it is a long post, Pune’s appetite is not a small thing… Check if you find something interesting. Vaishali resturant FC road is the very first place which Pune boasts of.  You get amazing  South-Indian food  here… But if you wish to taste amazing  filter coffee  after enjoying the South-Indian delicacies you must queue in the waiting list of Wadeshwar on the same road… Coming in Maharashtra and that too in Deccan area, authentic Maharashtrian food is close by on JM road. Visit Mathura in Pune and you will find a range of a  Maharashtrian a la Carte menu . If you are hungry enough for a plateful of meal, head towards  Durvankur  on Tilak road for the thali. Once you are in Maharshtra, you have to have Vada Pav and the one who would crave to have a good Vada Pav woul

Aihole Pattadakal and Badami Caves

This was another early morning for all of us.. After a tasty heavy breakfast at Royal Orchid, we packed ourselves in the car which was set to hit the highway.. We left Hospet at around 8 as we had to travel a long distance today. We crossed Tungabhadra Dam, which was throwing milky white water through its doors as if it wanted to make this place beautiful with the Sun shining bright yellow and soothingly green paddy fields around. We were driving on the straight and good road having road dividers which were planted with shrubs flowering bright pink flowers. This was a beautiful road. (or the company and environment made me feel this way?). We crossed a town named Illakal which is famous for its sarees and pink granite quarries. On travelling for some more distance on highway we reached a town called Kardanta which is also name of a dry-fruits rich sweet (derived from the name of town) from which we took a turn away from highway. The road quality was not that good now but as we reach
